Dhanvantari is the Hindu god of medicine and an avatar of Lord Vishnu. He appears in the Puranas as one of the Yakshas, who brought nectar of immortality from Samudramanthan. Worshippers often pray to Dhanvantari seeking his blessings for sound health, especially on Dhanteras or Dhanwantari Trayodashi.
