Vishnu is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, and the Supreme Being in its Vaishnavism tradition. Vishnu is the 'preserver' in the Hindu trinity (Trimurti). Varaha is one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, as per ancient Hindu texts of Puarana. Lord Varaha is the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In his half-boar half-human, this avathar reflects the transformation of animal to man. When the demon Hiranyaksha stole the earth (personified as the goddess Bhudevi) and hid her in the primordial waters, Vishnu appeared as Varaha to rescue her.
